Curlew — Last Call
Irish Wildlife Series | Species 01
Track the Journey. Measure the Impact. Protect the Future.
The call that once filled the Irish countryside is disappearing.
The Curlew is one of Ireland's most recognisable birds — famous for its long curved bill, distinctive silhouette and unforgettable bubbling call.
But there are now only around a hundred breeding pairs remaining in Ireland, representing a decline of around 98% since the 1980s.
This is Species 01.
And this is Last Call.
The Story Behind the Design
The Curlew's story is a story about Ireland itself.
These remarkable waders need open, wet landscapes to breed — bogs, wetlands, rough grassland and traditional farmland.
But as those habitats have changed, the Curlew has struggled to survive.
Its eggs are laid on the ground.
Its chicks are vulnerable.
And when so few breeding birds remain, every nest matters.
The Last Call design was created to capture that moment — the feeling of hearing something that has been part of Ireland for generations and realising that one day, it might no longer be there.
But this isn't a design about giving up.
It is about giving the Curlew a future.
Not Just a Bird. A Sign of a Living Landscape.
Protecting Curlew means protecting the places they need to survive.
Wetlands.
Bogs.
Grasslands.
Open countryside.
And the wildlife that shares those habitats.
Conservation projects across Ireland are working with farmers, landowners, communities and conservationists to protect nests, improve habitat and give Curlew chicks a better chance of reaching adulthood.
And there are reasons for hope.
In 2026, a Curlew reared as part of a conservation effort returned to breed — a remarkable reminder that when we give wildlife a chance, nature can respond.
Species 01
Curlew — Last Call is the first chapter in the For The Ocean Irish Wildlife Series.
Each species tells a different story about Ireland's wildlife and the places they depend upon.
Species 01 — Curlew | Last Call
A disappearing call. A changing landscape. A species still worth fighting for.
Species 02 — Little Tern | The Epic Voyage
A tiny seabird travelling thousands of kilometres to return to Ireland's shores.
Species 03 — Roseate Tern | The Rarest Return
One of Ireland's rarest breeding seabirds, returning to protected islands such as Rockabill.
Species 04 — Puffin | Guardian of the Cliffs
An icon of Ireland's Atlantic coast, dependent on healthy seas and abundant food.
This is only the beginning.
More Than a T-Shirt
We believe wildlife conservation should be something people can understand, connect with and participate in.
That's why every piece in the Irish Wildlife Series tells a real story.
Wear it.
Learn about it.
Share it.
Protect it.
